Street Pedestrian Spaces In Stockholm, Sweden

Street pedestrian spaces, e.g, pavements, pedestrianized streets, pedestrian ways, cyclist ways, arcades, and some squares in the form of widened pavements, are important assets to cities. Good street pedestrian spaces are livable, and can become powerful magnets for both local and foreign investments, e.g, retailing, hospitality, tourism, etc. They can also enhance social life in cities through providing meaningful leisure venues and services, hence improvement of the quality of life of cities' inhabitants.

Street pedestrian spaces can be made livable, hence vibrant urban spaces. That can be achieved during the planning and design of new streets, or redevelopment of existing streets, through ensuring that street pedestrian spaces cater for all user groups as well as more functions, other than their traditional ones. The latter often entail strolling and passing through.

The video above presents examples of some pedestrian street spaces from 9 streets in Stockholm, namely, Barkarbyvägen in Barkarby City, Drottningholmsvägen, Fleminggatan, Sveavägen, Hamngatan, Drottninggatan, Strömgatan, Birgerjarlsgatan, and Sauegränd. Photo presentation in the video follows the above order of the streets.
