Jacob Kimaryo

Jacob Kimaryo is the Founder and Director of Jacob Kimaryo Consultancy (Sweden). He is also an Independent Urban Development Analyst and Critic. He holds an MSc and Graduate Diploma in Town Planning from Oxford Brookes University, and a PhD from Lund University. He also holds a Diploma in Urban and Rural Planning. Dr Kimaryo’s professional expertise and interests lie in the following areas: Comprehensive Planning, Detailed Planning (Urban Design), Traffic Planning, Development Control, Applied and Scientific Urban Research, Urban Planning Education, and Evaluation of Urban Development Programs and Projects. He has over thirty years of teaching, research and practice experience gained through working in the United Kingdom, Sweden and Africa. He is part of an extensive network in Africa and elsewhere, e.g. UN Habitat, World Bank, UNESCO and other organisations. He is Ex-Director of Urban Research and Training Consultancy Ltd (UK) and Ex-Chairman of African Urban Heritage Foundation Ltd (UK). He has held teaching and research positions at Oxford Brookes University, KTH, University of Botswana and Ardhi University. He is also the Founder of History and the Built Environment Network of the International Association for People-Environment Studies (IAPS) and Co-Founder of Urban Research and Training Consultancy (EA) Ltd (Uganda).
